Nighthawks in Grand Central

November 19, 2008

This scene reminded me of the way that Hopper famously captures solitude in his compositions. The viewing angle that always goes through a window or a glass wall, where the subjects are never aware that they are being watched. His compositions have silent dialogue, where although no one’s mouth is open, their arrangement and position betray their solitude.
